Our year 9s undertake an experiential program exploring issues relating to Community, Urban and Environment issues (CUE). At present this program is predominantly about activities and lacks thorough and relevant exploration of concepts to really develop greater understanding. I would like to see the kids use classportals to explore the issues they were confronted with before they undertake the current one dimensional, traditional practice of reflection.
CUE007 is being created to initiate student research of the countries they will be visiting during their Big Experience trips in Oct/Nov. Ideally this adventure extends their appreciate of CUE issues in a foreign place/country. We want the kids to take some ownership of the activity and not simply respond as sheep being herded without the need for thought.

I am unsure how we will use My Place at Firbank. We will probably fall within the Minimal Participation level at this stage. I could use it with my Year 7 students who are beginning studies in Geography.

I am keen to improve my skills- a constant endeavor. I am very keen to get a bigger picture of how these technologies can be used more effectively. I am enjoying viewing people’s efforts. Gail

This is a picture of my son and his friends at Point Leo over the Easter holiday break. My son is on the right hand side. If only it were that warm today!

I have many points of interest for this summit.
- to make greater use of the interactive whiteboard in all areas of the curriculum at year 5
- to set up a class blog my students can use this term during our unit about the human body/puberty/leadership
- to learn how to use & develop podcasts

IÂ hope to create a blog fro my Year 12 French class, on which my students will be able to:
* find and post info
* receive news (rss?)
* communicate
…in French
…Â on the following topic: French Identity
Is a blog the best tool to do that?

I’d like to establish where I’m going with this project and how it can link into my role within the school. The students at our school (I think!) see the library as being connected with new technologies and are amenable to being involved in learning new technologies from within the library. I’d like to find a way to have students engage in discussions with other students about ideas that are posted on the myplace page. Is there a way to have a library class portal where interested students from differing year levels can interact with the page during out of class hours (Recess and lunchtime for example). Alternatively, or perhaps additional to, I’d like to establish a class portal for my Yr 7 tutorial group and we could use it as a means of exploring issues of interest that could prompt discussion. My tutorial time is limited but I could see it working.
