Add Graphics to Your Blog

Part of what makes blog posts interesting are the images used. They not only break up the “Textiness” of the entry, but are often an integral part of what’s being shared. This could be a digital photograph, scan of your work, clip art or images in the public domain. Sometimes you may want to use images from Web sites (it’ best to check on this first with the site owners or your local policy).

In WordPress, this is all you have to do…

1. Log-in to your WordPress administration panel (Dashboard).
Either “Write” a new Post / Page or “Manage” one on which you want to include an image.Upload

2. Once you’re in the WYSIWYG Text Editor, look beneath it for the file upload section.
Click on the “Browse” button and navigate to an image you have saved on your hard drive. Select that picture (if should be in .jpeg/.jpg, .gif or .png formats).

3. Fill in the “Title” for the image as this is what will appear when the mouse hovers over the image.

4. Click on “Upload” and wait a bit for the file to get sent from your computer to the other side of the world.

5. You will now see a small thumbnail of the image you uploaded in the upload dock.
Click on “Full Size” and “None”, then take that image and “send to editor.”

6. The image will appear wherever the cursor was. Let’s align it and give it a little white area between it and he wrapping text. Look at the WYSIWYG menu for the Image editor icon.

Insert Image7. When the image editing window opens, do a few things: set the alignment (right is pretty good).  Then enter “0″ for border, “10″ for vertical space and “15″ for horizontal space.  You can experiment with these settings, but they’re standard.

8. “Save” the work and then view the site from the outside to see if you need to fiddle with the layout at all. Repeat as necessary until you are happy with the result.

Note: you can use the same approach to uploading a Word document, slides, mind maps, and sometimes even podcasts.
