Extending an existing program
Our year 9s undertake an experiential program exploring issues relating to Community, Urban and Environment issues (CUE). At present this program is predominantly about activities and lacks thorough and relevant exploration of concepts to really develop greater understanding. I would like to see the kids use classportals to explore the issues they were confronted with before they undertake the current one dimensional, traditional practice of reflection.
CUE007 is being created to initiate student research of the countries they will be visiting during their Big Experience trips in Oct/Nov. Ideally this adventure extends their appreciate of CUE issues in a foreign place/country. We want the kids to take some ownership of the activity and not simply respond as sheep being herded without the need for thought.

Hi Fiona,
Our students are doing much the same thing this term - we have two groups going overseas (China - yr 10, India -yr 9) and the rest undertake Outdoor education camps throughout Victoria, NSW and Queensland. Our groups are going in the last two weeks of term 3. Perhaps we would be able to link up somehow and cross post between our schools. Our two other participants in this project are both involved with groups going on these trips.

One of the things we get our girls to do is to investigate the climate, geography, infrastructure and culture of the region they are going to. Everybody investigates the same things no matter where they are going. It prepares them further for where they are going.
