Catching the generosity bug

posted by jcarney on December 6th, 2007

Isn’t it wonderful to see so many thinking about others and really putting their words into action!

In Year 5 not only are families donating formula for babies at an orphange in Addis Ababa but some of the girls have rethought their gift giving this Christmas. As you know through some of the aid organisations you can purchase goats, eye operations or chickens for villages in needy countries. These are the sorts of gifts that are being given in our class this Christmas. What a great way to end the year!!

Being Generous

posted by sallayh on November 30th, 2007

At my school, we give our teachers a present at the end of the year, to say thankyou for teaching us. This year we recieved a letter from our  teacher , Mrs Carney, saying that she didn’t want any presents but if we were going to get her a present we should get her some baby powder. Now this wasn’t for her but it was for an orphanage in Ethiopia where she was going to donate them to the orphanage.  I think this is a great exsample of being generous and helping other people in this world that are less fortunate then us.

We should all try to give things to people that are less fortunate than us and imagine what they would be feeling right now with not alot of food, clothes and most of all happiness.

Thankyou,  Hannah S

We at T.C have been in the process of making a BIG difference.

We went to our local shops and asked for sonations like bags,, chocolates etc. and then we went round to the school and sold raffle tickets for a $dollar$. now on tuesday we are going to draw the raffle. Someone is going to win something MAGNIFICANT and only for one $dollar$. We have already made OVER $100 and we are still going. because we have put in a tiny bit of effort we are going to M.A.D (make a difference) to a WHOLE village. just a little bit of effort and a BIG reward (knowing that we personally have made a BIG difference

You should try it some day soon.

I promise you it DOES make you feel good

Erica- donating bottle tops and corks to make necklaces

joining world vision and sponoring a child

Rebecca-donating toys that we dont need to children that deserve it

Jeanie-doing fundraisers and giving the money to families in need.

Fundraising ( reply to human trafficking video clip)

We agree that we should set up a few marked bins for people to place glass or plastic used bottles to send back to the place where they can get exchanged for money. We will then send the money to a foundation such as world vision etc…    .

What can you do?

tmarchAs we come to the end of the school year, those of us involved in the MyPlace Project would love to get a snapshot of what young people think about their place in the world. A special blog post form has been created for this purpose. There are three videos to choose from. The idea is to pick the video that most interests you and write your best response.

  1. Write a post where you answer the question “What can we do to make the world a better place?” Use one of the three videos as the starting point for your response.
  2. Write as well and hinestly as you can.
  3. When you’ve finished writing, please take a short survey if you haven’t already.
