Tasks
Task #1
MindMap – show your thinking
Your first task is to create a comprehensive mindmap that shows the issues involved in the four main (and inter-related) topics:
- The “Great Recession” & Jobs
- Climate Change & Natural Disasters
- The War in Afghanistan & Terrorism
- Sustainable and fair use of the earth’s resources
The more complete and detailed your mindmap, the better. When you have completed the map, upload or link it to a post on this blog.
Task #2
“Clipping” Evidence
The mindmap should help you see the main issues involved in the four topics. Your next task is to find good information on one of the four areas. It’s suggested that you start with the Current News & Podcast links. Because you need to cite the Web pages where you got your information, it is highly recommended that you use install and sign-up for Clipmarks.Print out the “expanded” view of your 2 clip sets.
Task #3
Sifting Information
With your printed “Clipmarks” pages in hand, it’s time to sit back, read and reflect on what you’ve got. Use a highlighter to mark words or passages that you think are most important. When you have finished, give the documents to the teacher working with you so that they can be saved to use in the next sessions.
Task #4
2020 as you see it
We would really like to know what you’ve learned and thought about these past two days. Focus on the main things that impressed you and write about this. Then share how you think things will be for you in the year 2020 and beyond. You might want to think about your job, where you might live, what the global environment and economy might be like, etc.
You can download this handout if you aren’t given a printout.
For Later
a Word doc should:
- Have a centered title followed by your name
- Use footers to state your name, the date and the page number
- Your outline should use headings to show main ideas and levels of detail
- Approximately one image should be used per page.
- An estimated length is 2 – 4 pages.
Here are good Word tutorials if you need them. Your finished Word Doc should be uploaded with a brief explanation.
